M-Training Design

M-training is hot in recent years. It plays an increasingly important role in corporate training and lifelong learning.

According to the needs analysis, we noticed that organization X needs to communicate a lot with immigrants. How to make an efficient intercultural interview is a problem they face every day. We made our m-learning program on this subject. This 10- minute program introduces the communication techniques in intercultural individual interview. The whole design has plenty of images and game-like tests. Plenty of interactions and scenarios make it interesting and efficient.

But a good design means hundreds of failures. We have tried lots of versions. It's a test for communication in the group, especially in our multi-cultural group. I would like to thank my co-worker again. Without the understanding and respect of each other, we cannot present this wonderful work.

In this project Google Drive and Skype are used for documents exchange and communication. Powerpoint and Word are used for basic document and scenario creating. "Creately" is used for flow chart forming.

This training program involves microlearning and mobile-learning concepts. As it is named, mobile-learning is a learning design based on mobile applications like cell phones, pads, etc. A microlearning program refers to the short unit learning activities. These two designs bring the possibility to learn at flexible time. It is welcomed by people who use their debris time for learning. In my project, I learnt that in order to ensure the performance, we should follow some requirements:

1. Brief and clear. Mobile devices have different layouts than fixed screens. People's visual focus is also different on the screen. Usually, the design of mobile training should take into account the comfort of mobile device display in advance. On a mobile phone, a short but rich visual image is better than hundreds’ words.

2. User friendly. The design should be made according to the needs of users and their facilities: users could clearly know where they are and easily select the required pages to switch. Considering the needs of experts and beginners in mobile users. In addition, the multiple learning environments should be considered at the beginning. For example, on noisy subway station or in a quiet library room, different visual and vocal requirements should be followed.

3. Interesting and attractive. This can be achieved by increasing the vividness with visual content and the interactivities. In addition, it also should be done with social cognitive principals. For example, game-like design could be involved to increase the fun and the satisfaction of the brain. That’s some ideas which we used to improve our project from version 1 to our final version.

4. Appliable at work or in personal life. An evaluation with scenarios can help the learner to transfer and applicate the knowledge. The transfer and application of knowledge is an important part of training, which is good for understanding as well as motivation.
