Vertual Reality Project

A Real Success

Each day millions of new ideas are shared on Twitter. As the pioneer of educational technology, how to learn from these information effectively is a main ability we should get.
This project includes a 10 mins presentation.

How to stay competitive in the new era-learning via TwitterWe are in a changing era: the rapid development of technology, the continuous decoding of the mysteries of life, and the emergence of new occupations...How to update our knowledge and competence and keep a lifelong learning habit? In class TEN-7006 Design of Education and Training Systems in Master program of Educational Technology at University Laval, learning from Twitter has been tried. The current hotspots of education and technology are searched and followed on Twitter, a 10-minute presentation was shown before the class at the end of this project with a new display method. The topics include:Learning experiences based on big data and artificial intelligence (Apprentissage basé sur l'IA); Responsive, adaptive, inclusive, and personalized or tailored mobile learning (Apprentissage mobile); Game-based learning or gamification (Gamification); Micro-learning (Micro-apprentissage); Learning experiences through virtual reality (Réalité virtuelle); Learning based on simulation (Simulation), etc.Our group chose learning experiences through virtual reality(VR) as our theme and summarized the current applications on Twitter. In the presentation, we combined online display and mobile supported interactive survey. We applied multimedia and cognitive principles in our presentation. As the requirement of this project, Twitter is the main information resource. Google Drive and Skype are used for documents exchange and communication. We use an online presentation maker “Genial.ly” for display design, and another online logical “swipe” as our survey maker for interactions.Normally information on Twitter is updated faster than web articles, not to mention books. On Twitter, we can catch the frontiers of the searching topic and have more chance to sense the future development. Meanwhile it’s easier to contact directly with the information supplier on Twitter. After following them, it is also possible to form a community of practice, quickly share and discuss information, which is good for continuous learning. However, learning from Twitter has its weaknesses. For example, the large quantities of information pieces are lack of systematic logic. Critical thinking is important because the credibility of information has not been checked before they are twittered. In addition, explosion under the large amounts of fragmented information every day might cause people nervous. It was difficult to present our vast discovery on Twitter in set time. As we realized that the 10-minute presentation itself can be regarded as a micro-learning project, we decided to focus on one application of VR, according to the design principles of micro-learning.Furthermore, what kind of new display method should be used? We found that the commonly used PPT presentation is a very effective way of information dissemination, but there is a problem of insufficient interaction. At last we chose on online presentation platform “genial.ly”, which allows to insert a large number of visual links, and people could open it on their personal terminals. We also combined a mobile survey with “swipe” for our interactive statistics. The presentation was smooth, vivid and achieved good results. The presentation showed us a panorama of various technologies in education application. I was also inspired a lot by creative display methods realized by different tech supports. Thanks a lot, to my teacher, my classmates and my teammates. It was a wonderful learning experience. With the support of technology, lifelong learning is much easier. If you are interested to know VR, please click the button on the page and you will see our online presentation and synthesis.
